#songlyricsunday - "This is Benny. He grew up in New Jersey" and other #songlyrictales

Welcome to the first week in August; to #songlyricssunday and to Halfway up Rysy Peak.

When last I left you Boris Johnson had just been voted in by the Conservative Party as their leader and as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. There is a parody tune by Associated Rediffusion.

Some orientation; some complication; some resolution. I believe there is also rising and falling action.

This week I was again listening to Benny Bianco; Khalid and Halsey do Eastside which is an easy-listening hip-hop rap that is very thoughtful in its treatment of dreams and relationships. The video has an easy narrative which is told "This is Benny. Benny grew up in New Jersey. He liked a girl. This is the girl he liked" in subtitles/intertitles.

Wikipedia tells us that the song is in the key of A major. I notice that Ed Sheeran put his songwriting chops on it; so did Nathan Perez. And that it is eighty-eight beats an hour.

As of August 2019 - Eastside is or has been number one in six markets; including the US and the UK. Other territories which have given Eastside the highest honour include New Zealand; Lebanon; Ireland and Singapore.

In Central Europe, too, Eastside has been appreciated - for example the Czech Republic had it as number 9 in the charts at its peak. In its Slovak neighbour it placed #23 while in Austria, Germany and Switzerland it spent time around the Austrian top ten charts at #12 and in the Official German Charts at #15 [funfzehn] and Switzerland had it in #22. Switzerland might have multiple language charts like Belgium does. Both Walloon and Fleming appreciated this tune at #30 and #28 respectively; slightly lower than the Croatians at #26 or Slovenia #22.

In Southern Europe [Italy; Spain; Romania; France] Eastside has been bubbling under.

When I copied the lyrics into Notes I emphasised lines and phrases which mean something.

Uh
Yeah, yeah
When I was young, I fell in love
We used to hold hands, man, that was enough (yeah)
Then we grew up, started to touch
Used to kiss underneath the light on the back of the bus (yeah)
Oh no, your daddy didn't like me much
And he didn't believe me when I said you were the one
Oh, every day she found a way out of the window to sneak out late
She used to meet me on the Eastside
In the city where the sun don't set
And every day you know that we ride
Through the backstreets of a blue Corvette
Baby, you know I just wanna leave tonight
We can go anywhere we want
Drive down to the coast, jump in the seat
Just take my hand and come with me, yeah
We can do anything if we put our minds to it
Take your whole life then you put a line through it
My love is yours if you're willing to take it
Give me your heart 'cause I ain't gonna break it
So come away, starting today
Start a new life, together in a different place
We know that love is how these ideas came to be
So baby, run away, away with me
Seventeen and we got a dream to have a family
A house and everything in between
And then, oh, suddenly we turned twenty-three
Now we got pressure for taking our life more seriously
We got our dead-end jobs and got bills to pay
Have old friends and know our enemies
Now I, I'm thinking back to when I was young
Back to the day when I was falling in love
He used to meet me on the Eastside
In the city where the sun don't set
And every day you know where we ride
Through the backstreets in a blue Corvette
And baby, you know I just wanna leave tonight
We can go anywhere we want
Drive down to the coast, jump in the seat
Just take my hand and come with me
Singing
We can do anything if we put our minds to it
Take your whole life then you put a line through it
My love is yours if you're willing to take it
Give me your heart 'cause I ain't gonna break it
So come away, starting today
Start a new life, together in a different place
We know that love is how these ideas came to be
So baby, run away with me
Run away, now
Run away, now
Run away, now
Run away, now
Run away, now
Run away, now
He used to meet me on the Eastside
She used to meet me on the Eastside
He used to meet me on the Eastside
She used to meet me on the Eastside

In the city where the sun don't set

I also love to listen to songs about the natural and human environment - songs which may or may not give a specific sense of place. Often lyrics which are like poetry or based on poetry help me do this. So do songs which make me move - often in the company of other people and myself.

For the last three months people have been enjoying Elton John-approved Rocketman which starred Taron Egerton - an actor I first loved in underdog sports story Eddie the Eagle  in the year of Jamaican bob-sledding and other "the impossible made possible" wintry tales.

You stare through a tunnel of Solid wall that should be broken down And you can't see the field of green Has been turned into a raging battleground And you'll live with the consequence Tell me why don't you understand You'll destroy all the love that's been created Be a miser with an empty hand And it's all such a simple thing Changing everything Listen to the one who brings all this love to you Some other world, some other world, that's where you live Some other world, some other world, that's where you live Don't you care, stop and think about us and what you feel I'll be there, don't you cut yourself off from what is real Don't live in some other world You don't live in some other world There's a boat bound for paradise If you hurry you can ride it back 'Cause once the bait hits the water It don't take long 'till the sharks attack Oh but it's all such a simple thing Change is everything Let me be the one who brings all this love to you Some other world, some other world, that's where you live Some other world, some other world, that's where you live Don't you care, stop and think about us and what you feel I'll be there, don't you cut yourself off from what is real Don't live in some other world, in some other world Oh you don't live in some other world, in some other world Got to stop living in some other world Let me help you with a change of mind And it's all such a simple thing Changing everything Listen to the one who brings all this love to you This is our world, not some other world You don't live in some other world Live in our world, not some other world You don't live in some other world

And when the author of Halfway up Rysy Peak reads these lyrics, I think of Cruz and Ms Cindy - the latter of whom was scared of the flying monkeys of Wizard of Oz. Cruz has a way of putting on these cartoon voices.

The first environmentally-focused artist I glommed onto was Olivia Newton-John who had previously reached me through Koala Blue. Her husband Matt and daughter Chloe were also important people.

Like many people I connect to temperate rainforests with trees which reach high into the atmosphere and dig deep with their roots. And also the heaths and the grasslands which are good for picnics and sight-seeing and recollecting and reminiscing.

Before we go into the rainforest [and into the river] - I thought I would share Little River Band's Reminiscing. The refrain started visiting my head. Hurry don't be late - we're reminiscing.

Friday night, it was late, I was walking you home We got down to the gate and I was dreaming of the night Would it turn out right How to tell you girl I wanna build my world around you Tell you that it's true I wanna make you understand I'm talkin' about a lifetime plan That's the way it began, we were hand in hand Glenn Miller's Band was better than before We yelled and screamed for more And the Porter tunes (Night and Day) Made us dance across the room It ended all too soon And on the way back home I promised you'd never be alone Hurry, don't be late, I can hardly wait I said to myself when we're old We'll go dancing in the dark Walking through the park and reminiscing (Instrumental break) Friday night, it was late, I was walking you home We got down to the gate and I was dreaming of the night Would it turn out right Now as the years roll on Each time we hear our favorite song The memories come along Older times we're missing Spending the hours reminiscing Hurry, don't be late, I can hardly wait I said to myself when we're old We'll go dancing in the dark Walking through the park and reminiscing

Also there on that Olivia album would be Have you never been mellow; Don't stop believing; A little more love; If you love me let me know; Twist of fate and Magic. And of course the whole impact of Grease and Grease 2 - Michelle Pfeffier as a student - and I had recently watched Dangerous Minds for the first time and picking up nuances and heart in July 2019.

And there is She by Osmosis, an Australian band who was big in apartheid South Africa [as if there were any other kind between 1959 and 1994]. I feel I would be remiss if I didn't find a lyric video. It begins - She - didn't even remember my name - I thought I was part of her game.

OSMOSIS SHE DIDN'T EVEN REMEMBER MY NAME LYRICS

She didn't even remember my name
I was only part of her game
Then she has played me for
She had forgotten when I was around
And now I was just part of her crowd
A stranger who was passing through

Hello
Think about
I'm the fool
Made me cry
Let me die
I love her so

You
Remember I love you
Remember
I love you
And now I was just part of her crowd
A stranger who was passing through

Hello
Think about
I'm the fool
Made me cry
Let me die
I love you so

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

She didn't even remember my name
My poor hell is just want of the same
Some stranger who is just passing through
Think about
I'm the fool

A New Zealand-Australian lyricist and singer I came to appreciate over the last ten years [especially through the double album Songwriters Speak] was Sharon O'Neill. It would be particularly exciting if the directing and writing team - or the music acquisition team - played Maxine over Les Norton's adventures in Kings Cross [Sydney] when he is a young detective experiencing the city life for the first time after his life in western Queensland.

Other songs I enjoyed from that time were Asian Paradise and Losing You.

[Verse 1]
Creases in your white dress
Bruises on your bare skin
Looks like another fine mess
You've got yourself into
What's the matter with you?
Has the cat got your tongue?
Well if you don't like the beat
Then don't play with the drum

[Chorus]
Maxine, you're not the only one
To take the whole world on
No one's ever won
Maxine, case 1-3-5-2
A red and green tattoo
Eyes cold steel blue

[Verse 2]
On a rain-slicked avenue
Long shadows in the night
Take off your spike-heeled shoes
You've got to run for your life
Razor blade in your pocket
From an ex-marine
Makes you speed like a rocket
Ooh it cuts so clean

[Chorus]
Maxine, you're not the only one
To take the whole world on
No one's ever won
Maxine, case 1-3-5-2
A red and green tattoo
Eyes cold steel blue

[Verse 3]
How come you're payin' for borrowed time
Starin' out into space?
Bad boys and cold comfort
And a smacked-up face

[Chorus]
Maxine, you're not the only one
To take the whole world on
No one's ever won
Maxine, case 1-3-5-2
A red and green tattoo
Eyes cold steel blue

[Outro]
Who's that walking, walking behind you?
Who's that talking, talking about you?
Who's that walking, walking with you, Maxine?
Who's that walking, walking behind you?
Who's that talking, talking about you?
Who's that walking, walking with you, Maxine?

Les Norton is on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation now - right before the cricket which is supervened by Nine Entertainment through the Sky feed.

I might find Music What Cricketers Like. Also Random Souths Fan for the devotees of the cardinal and myrtle. And talking about rugby league music - which I sometimes do; as well as the sport! - Simply the Best and Same Love by Macklemore and friends. And The Music they play in Heaven - which will be for the Japanese-based Rugby World Cup.

I call you, when I need you my heart's on fire
You come to me, come to me, wild and wild
You come to me
Give me everything I need
Give me a lifetime of promises and a world of dreams
Speak the language of love like you know what it means
And it can't be wrong, take my heart
And make it strong, baby
You're simply the best
Better than all the rest
Better than anyone
Anyone I ever met
I'm stuck on your heart
I hang on every word you say
Tear us apart
Baby, I would rather be dead
In your heart I see the start of every night and every day
In your eyes, I get lost, I get washed away
Just as long as I'm here in your arms
I could be in no better place
You're simply the best
Better than all the rest
Better than anyone
Anyone I ever met
I'm stuck on your heart
I hang on every word you say
Oh, tear us apart, no, no
Baby, I would rather be dead
Each time you leave me I start losing control
You're walking away with my heart and my soul
I can feel you even when I'm alone
Oh, baby, don't let go
Oh, you're the best
Better than all the rest
Better than anyone
Anyone I ever met
I'm stuck on your heart
I hang on every word you say
Oh, tear us apart, no, no
Baby, I would rather be dead
You're the best
You're simply the best
Better than all the rest
Better than anyone
Anyone I ever met
I'm stuck on your heart
I hang on every word you say
Oh, tear us apart, no, no
Baby, I would rather be dead
Oh, you're the best

[Piano Intro]
[Verse 1: Macklemore]
When I was in the third grade, I thought that I was gay
‘Cause I could draw,
my uncle was, and I kept my room straight
I told my mom, tears rushing down my face
She's like, "Ben, you've loved girls since before Pre-K!"
Trippin', yeah I guess she had a point, didn't she?
A bunch of stereotypes all in my head
I remember doing the math like, "Yeah, I'm good at little league."

A pre-conceived idea of what it all meant
For those that like the same sex had the characteristics

The right-wing conservatives think it's a decision
And you can be cured with some treatment and religion

Man-made, rewiring of a pre-disposition
Playing God,
aw nah, here we go
America the brave still fears what we don't know

And "God loves all his children" is somehow forgotten
But we paraphrase a book written thirty-five hundred years ago
I don't know

[Hook: Mary Lambert]
And I can't change, even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
And I can't change, even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
My love, my love, my love
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm

[Verse 2: Macklemore]
If I was gay, I would think hip-hop hates me
Have you read the YouTube comments lately?
"Man, that's gay" gets dropped on the daily

We've become so numb to what we're sayin'
Our culture founded from oppression
Yet we don't have acceptance for 'em

Call each other faggots behind the keys of a message board
A word rooted in hate, yet our genre still ignores it
"Gay" is synonymous with the lesser
It's the same hate that's caused wars from religion
Gender to skin color, the complexion of your pigment
The same fight that led people to walk-outs and sit-ins
It's human rights for everybody, there is no difference

Live on and be yourself
When I was at church they taught me something else
If you preach hate at the service, those words aren't anointed
That holy water that you soak in has been poisoned

When everyone else is more comfortable remaining voiceless
Rather than fighting for humans that have had their rights stolen

I might not be the same, but that's not important
No freedom 'til we're equal, damn right I support it

[Trombone Interlude]

[Hook: Mary Lambert]
And I can't change, even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
My love, my love, my love
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm

[Verse 3: Macklemore]
We press play, don't press pause: progress, march on!
With a veil over our eyes, we turn our back on the cause
'Til the day that my uncles can be united by law
Kids are walking 'round the hallway
Plagued by a pain in their heart

A world so hateful, some would rather die than be who they are
And a certificate on paper isn't gonna solve it all
But it's a damn good place to start

No law's gonna change us, we have to change us
Whatever god you believe in, we come from the same one
Strip away the fear, underneath it's all the same love
About time that we raised up!

[Hook: Mary Lambert]
And I can't change, even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
And I can't change, even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
My love, my love, my love
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm

[Outro: Mary Lambert]
Love is patient
Love is kind

Love is patient
Love is kind (not crying on Sundays)
Love is patient (not crying on Sundays)
Love is kind (not crying on Sundays)
Love is patient (not crying on Sundays)
Love is kind (not crying on Sundays)
Love is patient (not crying on Sundays)
Love is kind (not crying on Sundays)
Love is patient
Love is kind

[thank you to the clever people of Genius for their interpretations].

And last Sunday if I had participated I would have put in Everybody wants to rule the world by Tears for Fears.

There are wonderful videos Lorde does and people put to Assassins' Creed mashups/montages.

Welcome to your life
There's no turning back
Even while we sleep
We will find you
Acting on your best behaviour
Turn your back on mother nature
Everybody wants to rule the world
It's my own design
It's my own remorse
Help me to decide
Help me make the most
Of freedom and of pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world
There's a room where the light won't find you
Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down
When they do I'll be right behind you
So glad we've almost made it
So sad they had to fade it
Everybody wants to rule the world
I can't stand this indecision
Married with a lack of vision
Everybody wants to rule the world
Say that you'll never never never never need it
One headline why believe it?
Everybody wants to rule the world
All for freedom and for pleasure
Nothing ever lasts for ever
Everybody wants to rule the world

Also I am thinking of Sometimes when we touch which I know best as a Newton song.

You ask me if I love you And I choke on my reply I'd rather hurt you honestly than mislead you with a lie And who am I to judge you On what you say or do I'm only just beginning To see the real you (Chorus) And sometimes when we touch The honesty's too much And I have to close my eyes and hide I wanna hold you 'til I die 'Til we both break down and cry I wanna hold you 'til the fear in me subsides Romance and all its strategies Leaves me battling with my pride But for all the insecurity Some tenderness survives I'm just another writer Still trapped within my truth A hesitant prize-fighter Still trapped within my youth (Chorus) At times I'd like to break you And drive you to your knees At times I'd like to break through And hold you endlessly At times I understand you And I know how hard you try I've watched while love commands you And I've watched love pass you by At times I think we're drifters Still searching for a friend A brother or a sister
And then the passion flares again

[you can sing it in Portuguese too] [and, yes, Europop is daggy!]

There are lots of other 21st century tunes which have captured my heart and imagination. As the universal remote control does not provide subtitles easily it has been more difficult to parse the text without big context clues.

Something which inspired me on Friday was a United Way children's choir version of The cover is not the book which is in MARY POPPINS RETURNS and their latest is What about us by P!nk. I made an arch comment about whataboutery.

La da da da da, la da da da da
Da da da

We are searchlights, we can see in the dark
We are rockets, pointed up at the stars
We are billions of beautiful hearts
And you sold us down the river too far

What about us?
What about all the times you said you had the answers?
What about us?
What about all the broken happy ever afters?
What about us?
What about all the plans that ended in disaster?
What about love? What about trust?
What about us?

We are problems that want to be solved
We are children that need to be loved
We were willin', we came when you called
But, man, you fooled us, enough is enough, oh

What about us?
What about all the times you said you had the answers?
What about us?
What about all the broken happy ever afters?
Oh, what about us?
What about all the plans that ended in disaster?
Oh, what about love? What about trust?
What about us?

Oh, what about us?
What about all the plans that ended in disaster?
What about love? What about trust?
What about us?

Sticks and stones, they may break these bones
But then I'll be ready, are you ready?
It's the start of us, waking up, come on
Are you ready? I'll be ready
I don't want control, I want to let go
Are you ready? I'll be ready
'Cause now it's time to let them know
We are ready, what about us?

What about us?
What about all the times you said you had the answers?
So what about us?
What about all the broken happy ever afters?
Oh, what about us?
What about all the plans that ended in disaster?
Oh, what about love? What about trust?
What about us?

What about us?
What about us?
What about us?
What about us?
What about us?
What about us?

[MARY POPPINS]
Uncle Gutenberg was a bookworm
And he lived on Charing Cross
The memory of his volumes brings a smile
He would read me lots of stories
When he wasn't on the sauce
Now I'd like to share the wisdom
Of my favourite bibliophile
He said a-

Cover is not the book
So open it up and take a look
'Cause under the covers one discovers
That the king may be a crook
Chapter titles are like signs
And if you read between the lines
You'll find your first impression was mistook
For a cover is nice
But a cover is not the book

[AUDIENCE]
Ta-ru-ra-lee, ta-ra-ta-ta-ta!
Ta-ru-ra-lee, ta-ra-ta-ta-ta!

[PENGUIN]
Mary Poppins, could you give us an example?

[MARY POPPINS]
Certainly!

Nellie Rubina was made of wood
But what could not be seen was though
Her trunk up top was barren
Well, her roots were lush and green
So in Spring when Mr Hickory saw her blossoms blooming there
He took root despite her bark
And now there's seedlings everywhere

[MARY POPPINS and JACK]
Which proves
A cover is not the book
So open it up and take a look
'Cause under the covers one discovers
That the king may be a crook
Chapter titles are like signs
And if you read between the lines
You'll find your first impression was mistook
For a cover is nice
But a cover is not the book

[JACK]
Should we do the one about the wealthy widow?

[MARY POPPINS]
Oh, by all means!

[JACK]
Always loved that one

[MARY POPPINS]
Well, go on then!

[JACK]
Lady Hyacinth Macaw
Brought all her treasures to a reef

[MARY POPPINS]
Where she only wore a smile

[JACK]
Plus two feathers, and a leaf

[MARY POPPINS]
So no one tried to rob her
'Cause she barely wore a stitch

[JACK]
For when you're in your birthday suit

[MARY POPPINS and JACK]
There ain't much there to show you're rich!

[ALL]
Oh, a cover is not the book
So open it up and take a look
Cause under the covers one discovers
That the king maybe a crook
Ta-ru-ra-lee, ta-ru-ra-la, ta-ru-ra-lee, ta-ra-ta-ta!

[MARY POPPINS and JACK]
You'll find your first impression was mistook (Ya-da-da-da)
For a cover is nice
But a cover is not the book

[MARY POPPINS]
Oh, give us the one about the dirty rascal, why don't ya?

[JACK]
Isn't that one a bit long?

[MARY POPPINS]
Well, the quicker you're into it, the quicker you're out of it.

[JACK]
Once upon a time
In a nursery rhyme
There was a castle with a king
Hiding in a wing
'Cause he never went to school to learn a single thing

He had scepters and swords
And a parliament of lords
But on the inside he was sad
Egad!
Because he never had a wisdom for numbers
A wisdom for words
Though his crown was quite immense
His brain was smaller than a bird's
So the queen of the nation
Made a royal proclamation:
"To the Missus and the Messers
The more or lessers
Bring me all the land's professors"
Then she went to the hair dressers

And they came from the east
And they came from the south
From each college they poured knowledge
From their brains into his mouth
But the king couldn't learn
So each professor met their fate
For the queen had their heads removed
And placed upon the gate
And on that date
I state their wives all got a note
Their mate was now the late-great

But then suddenly one day
A stranger started in to sing
He said, "I'm the dirty rascal
And I'm here to teach the king"
And the queen clutched her jewels
For she hated royal fools
But this fool had some rules
They really ought to teach in schools

Like you'll be a happy king
If you enjoy the things you've got
You should never try to be
The kind of person that you're not
So they sang and they laughed
For the king had found a friend
And they ran onto a rainbow for
The story's perfect end

So the moral is you musn't let
The outside be the guide
For it's not so cut and dried
Well unless it's Dr. Jekyll
Then you better hide, petrified!
No, the truth can't be denied
As I now have testified
All that really counts and matters
Is the special stuff inside

[AUDIENCE]
He did it!

[ALL]
Oh, a cover is not the book
So open it up and take a look
'Cause under the covers one discovers
That the king may be a crook

[MARY POPPINS]
So please listen to what we've said

[JACK]
And open up a book tonight in bed

[MARY POPPINS and JACK]
So one more time before we get the hook

[JACK]
Sing it out strong!

[AUDIENCE]
A cover is nice

[MARY POPPINS]
Please take our advice!

[AUDIENCE]
A cover is nice

[JACK]
Or you'll pay the price!

[AUDIENCE]
A cover is nice

[ALL]
But a cover is not the book

[AUDIENCE]
Ta-ru-ra-lee, ta-ru-ra-la-la
Ta-ru-ra-lee, ta-ru-ra-la-la
Ta-ru-ra-lee, ta-ru-ra-la-la, la, la!

I'm not broken is another worthy listen from The One Voice Children's Choir.

It would make a good pair with Celine Dion's Nothing broken but my heart which is on her self-titled album of 1992 which I bought in October 1995.

October 1995 was a good month for me musically - starting off with Mariah Carey's Fantasy and the ancillary singles like One Sweet Day and Underneath the Stars. Deep in the album I started to feel things.

And then there was Sophie B Hawkins As I lay me down to sleep. The first three songs on that are topnotch as is Mr Tugboat Hello and songs 7 and 8. That album is called WHALER and about seven months later I discovered Damn I wish I was your lover from Tongues and Tales.

In film music there was Pochahontas and The colours of the wind.

And The Expression! I listened to them a lot in the early 2000s when I had a working tape-player which had by then been in my life for five and a half years.

[With closed eyes - the Australian version was played on Countdown and Molly Meldrum introduced it in 1983 - there are also great songs on the 1982 album].

August 1994 was the time I started to listen and choose a lot of my own music. My first album was The singles collection 1981-1993 by Kim Wilde and the Wilde family [Marty her dad and Ricky her brother] as well as lots of other composers and songwriters.

[You came - Sopot version - there is a 1988 and a 1992 version - and even a 2008 performance]!

My first single was probably Lisa Loeb's Stay which came from Reality Bites. And one day, a year before, I opened up an Uncle Tobys' roll-up packet and found Gonna see my baby tonight by Jimmy Barnes with guitar licks by Nathan Cavalieri.

It was also my first CD-ROM music in January 1994.

[Gonna see my baby tonight lyrics - first performed by LaDeDa in 1971]

Might also try to find The secret life of pets 2 to see if there is much music in it. I imagine the fans of the latest Toy story will want to share lyrical discoveries and learnings.

(It's gonna be a lovely day) (Me and Joe schooldays)

Finally I enjoyed Classic Trance from 1999-2001 which DelasTrance put up on YouTube. And I tried to look up Touch me I'm sick.

So I think I listened to the first six tunes on the Classic Trance assuming each song is three minutes ... which would probably not be an informed assumption!

1. William Orbit - Adagio For Strings (Ferry Corsten Mix) [1999] 2. Da Hool - Meet Her At The Love Parade (Hooligans 2001 Club Mix) [2001] 3. Mauro Picotto - Lizard (1999 R.A.F. By Picotto remix) [1999] 4. Lange - Drifting Away [2001] 5. Ayla - Liebe (ATB Mix) [1999] 6. ATB – 9PM (Till I Come) (Signum Remix) [1999]

And in the Big Issue [storytelling/fiction edition to drop on 9 August 2019] there was Angie McMahon and her songs about love and trust and shame.

Here are four of them in this New York studio recording - one of them is Pasta - which I would recommend to those new to the McMahon lyric and ethic. Ethos; logos; pathos - right?

Homeless World Cup has just finished in Cardiff.

And I am reading Vanity Fair where the Setons spent time in Ostend and Brussels. Amelia and her brother and lots of people. And Becky Sharp comes through somehow.
